Seems like a strange name for a craft blog, right? Well, I have always felt a little bit shy, or afraid to share my creativenss. When making something fabulous and someone compliments me, I usually play it off like it is no big deal. I have been a 'closet crafter' for too long! No more apologies! No more excuses! I love to craft and I am not ashamed!

SummerTime Week 1 - Science

This is our first 'official' week of summer.  My oldest is on year-round school, and luckily we have the track that gets the longest 'summer'!
I have given each week a topic and found fun activities, crafts, and treats to go along with each theme.  You are welcome to follow along with us as we try to stay sane during the Summer!

Week 1 - Science
My girls love doing experiments and trying out new things!
I know they will love this week and seeing what we can come up with!

Last night we made a couple Sensory Bottles.
I found great ideas for these bottles at
and

We had small water bottles (2 for each girl).
The girls pulled all of the wrappers off.  (Why do kids like destroying things so much?)
The girls added glitter to their bottles, then we filled them up to almost the top with water.
We added food coloring to the glitter/water combination.
For each of the girls we made
1 bottle - added corn syrup
1 bottle - added vegetable oil.

I wrapped duct tape around the closed lids to *hopefully* prevent spills!
The girls love their bottles!  They love shaking them up and then letting them sit for a minute to see what happens!  They are fascinated that the corn syrup holds onto the glitter and is like glitter 'blobs'!  The oil, on the other hand, just makes the water thicker, but the glitter doesn't stick to it!
A cheap, easy experiment for the girls to play with!

*Please ignore the laundry basket in the background!  Tomorrow is laundry day!*

Thanks for stopping by!

This afternoon we will be making homemade playdoh!
I will let you know how it goes!

  4. Erin - we probably added 2-3 Tablespoons. I didn't really measure, just dumped some in. That's part of the fun - if it doesn't work how you thought it would, try again! :)
